Congratulations to the winners of Taste Your Future’s “Stir Up a Career” Bursary Contest!

The winning entry in the Maker/Designer category is Danielle Laforest from the University of Guelph for her product idea, Pure Herb. Danielle’s idea to package frozen herbs in meal-specific boxes helps to reduce food waste and to inspire home cooks and cocktail makers.

The winning entry in the Scientist/Programmer/Engineer category is Angie Ibrahim from McMaster University. Angie’s idea simulates the feeling of coldness in a bottled water product without requiring refrigeration by infusing it with a compound that activates the mouth’s coldness receptors.

Thank you to all of our finalists and to everyone who entered the contest. And of course, a special thanks to our contest judges: Michael Burrows (Chair of Food and Beverage Ontario, CEO of Maple Lodge Farms), Nicole Gallace (Founder of FoodGrads), Dana McCauley (Executive Director of Food Starter), and Carson Walsh (Process Engineer, Cadbury).

Meet all of our finalists:

Taste Your Future’s “Stir Up a Career” contest is an exciting new initiative from Food and Beverage Ontario, an organization that represents food and beverage processors in Ontario. As part of our Taste Your Future campaign, we are reaching out to students to encourage them to choose a career in food and beverage processing, the largest manufacturing industry in Ontario.

Students entered the contest either as a “Maker and Designer” or a “Scientist, Programmer and Engineer” by submitting a video about their great idea. The “Maker and Designer” category is for students with an idea for a new food or beverage product. The “Scientist, Programmer and Engineer” category is for students with an idea for a new process, software application, tool or machinery for food and beverage processing.

Taste Your Future thanks all the students who submitted their great ideas.
